Senior Safety Engineer/Analyst

Career Opportunity and Primary Roles / Responsibilities

We are currently seeking a Senior Safety Engineer/Analyst to provide expert-level functional safety consulting services to a client in the aerospace and rail industries. Day to day responsibilities are :

  • Provide expert safety consulting services to clients in the aerospace (including the unmanned segment) and rail industry.
  • Perform a variety of safety analysis (FHA, PSSA, SSA, FMECA, etc) analysis using industry best practices
  • Determine safety requirements/functions and their associated safety/design assurance levels
  • Work with design teams and Vu0026amp;V teams to negotiate requirements, contribute to design decisions and review demonstration evidence
  • Generate safety case documentation to substantiate product safety
  • Lead safety process improvement activities and provide coaching to client resources
  • Generate safety-related training material and provide training both to in-house engineers and clients

The chosen candidate will have a proven track record of leading functional safety engineering activities, ideally in the aerospace industry and also have some knowledge or experience in the rail industry. The candidate will be expected to lead company activities related to safety engineering and work with minimal supervision.

Required Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering discipline from an accredited institute
  • +10 years’ experience of functional safety engineering in the aerospace industry and/or rail industries
  • Strong knowledge of SAE ARP 4761
  • Significant experience of direct client interaction, at management and working level
  • Able to plan and execute work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written)

Other Competency Assets :

  • Knowledge/interest in the drone/unmanned aerospace industry
  • Experience of working on client sites in a consulting context
  • Experience in the railroad industry
  • Knowledge of the SIL (Safety Integrity Level) approach to functional safety, as per IEC 61508
  • Knowledge of railroad-specific safety standards e.g. IEC 62278 (EN 50126), IEC 62279 (EN 50128)
  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering standards e.g. SAE ARP 4754A, IEC15288, INCOSE
  • Ability to communicate effectively in French (oral and written)

Miscellaneous Requirements:

  • Occasional travel required to customer sites (usually within North America)
  • Possibility of assignment to customer site within the Montreal area
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada
